Safety expert Fatjon Softa, following the fatal accident of two sisters on the Saranda-Delvina highway, where they lost their lives, showed how severely the perpetrator who took the lives of the two young women could be punished.
According to Softa, despite the fact that the number of accidents has decreased, the number of fatalities has increased, and this is because many drivers seem safe on the road, but forget that there are no masters, especially when you have consumed alcohol or narcotics.
"Accidents are caused by the bad traffic on the road of some drivers. Accidents are the number of the largest crimes resulting in death compared to other losses of life. It is an alarm bell for our society. The use of alcohol and narcotics while driving takes lives. A deep analysis is needed not only by the police, but by all structures.
The average age of those who cause accidents was 24-35 years old, now it is 34-45. This comes from self-confidence, but there are no masters in the car when it circulates on the road. As for the last case where two sisters lost their lives, the author of the fatal accident resulted in 0.51% alcohol (the allowed amount is up to 0.02%). Of course, in these cases there is criminal proceedings. Then they add to this that he caused a victim, when in addition to the fine, there is imprisonment. There are two articles. Our code has 5 to 15 years of imprisonment.
Being close to joining the EU, the tightening of laws or the road code should be coherent with other European countries. We have various deaths now, not only on national roads or highways, as we have pedestrians, motorcycles and bicycles or skateboards.
The cities with the highest accident rate are Tirana, Durrës and Shkodra. Then the axes were the National Road and Milot-Lezha, etc. The axes need to be looked at, solved with police presence and radars, but they are not enough. The Fier-Vlora axis has an emergency lane, but it is narrow, like a bicycle lane. You cannot park in case of an emergency. The white paint is not phosphorescent, it increases the risk at night", Softa told "News 24".
