Albania continues to face severe fire situations in several areas of the country, while efforts to extinguish them have been intensified from the air and ground. The National Operational Center for Civil Emergencies at AKMC has reported that from 09:00 to 19:30 on August 26, 2025, a total of 12 fires were registered. Of these, 8 have been extinguished, 4 are still active and 1 is under continuous monitoring.
Among the most endangered areas is the Pishë-Poro forest in Novosela, Vlora municipality, where the fire that started yesterday in the village of Delisuf has grown to large proportions due to strong winds. Dozens of emergency forces have been deployed on the ground, including 20 BMEC personnel, 40 military personnel, firefighting forces from Vlora and local structures. 2 Air Force helicopters and 2 helicopters from the United Arab Emirates have also been deployed to help. The situation is critical, while efforts are focused on stopping the spread of flames towards the hydropower channel.
Another worrying fire is in the village of Bogovë in Skrapar, where the fire started yesterday at around 16:30 in a hangar and then spread to a pine forest area. 7 firefighting vehicles with 22 firefighters from Skrapar, Berat and Poliçan, 5 forest service forces, as well as army and municipal troops have been deployed there. The burned area has so far reached around 18 hectares and due to the wind, several small fires within the burned area have been reactivated. There is currently no danger to homes.
In the Germenj Natural Park, near the border with Greece, the fire has reactivated near pyramid 15. Firefighters from Cologne have intervened between pyramids 14 and 15. The intervention has temporarily stabilized the situation, which will continue to be monitored.
In Pezë Helmës, Tirana, a fire remains active in difficult terrain, with no roads and dense vegetation. Firefighters are on constant alert to protect nearby homes, even though they are far from the main fire.
Meanwhile, the fires have been completely isolated and extinguished in eight locations: Vrepckë (Kolonja), Fushë Farkë (Tirana), Stajkë (Vau i Dejës), Shtoi i Ri (Shkodër), Peshtan i Madh (Fier), the Laç-Lezhe highway, Shumbat (Dibar) and Potgorcë (Dibar).
Authorities continue intensive monitoring and interventions on the ground, while remaining concerned about the risk of reactivations due to weather conditions and difficult terrain. The situation is still evolving and requires maximum attention.
