Former Finance Minister Arben Malaj described the election results in Hungary as a "political lesson," emphasizing that high citizen participation was crucial for the change of government.
" Dictatorships can only succeed with mass participation, because whenever participation is small, the one in power is favored and this is a political lesson. So, the victory came precisely from this element that must be implemented in the challenges that Albania faces. Participation as actively as possible ," said Malaj.
He emphasized that a long stay in power brings degradation and corruption, comparing the situation with historical examples.
" We know that absolute powers corrupt absolutely. 16 years in power. Just like it happened with all empires, I mean that Alexander the Great of Macedonia did not lose the war because the soldiers were not ready to fight, but because they started fighting each other over the division of the looted wealth. This problem also happened with Orban, who tried to control all the power ," he declared on "A2CNN".
Malaj also touched on the issue of corruption with public funds, making a direct comparison with Albania.
" The level of corruption with budget funds was almost the same as in Albania and the EU had blocked everything and I think that the scheme that was implemented in Albania with IPARD 1 and IPARD 2 is a symmetrical copy of the Hungarian scheme. I have carefully read both versions ," said Malaj.
According to him, the elections in Hungary were important not only for the country, but also for its orientation in relation to the European Union.
" The biggest challenge was that these were not just elections for Hungary. They were definitely very important for that country, to orient it from a country against the geostrategic, geopolitical decisions of the EU, to a country supportive of the EU's challenges ," he said.
Malaj emphasized that final decision-making belongs to citizens and not to external influences.
" The other thing we need to learn is that the vote is decided by the people. It is not decided by those who cheer for one political wing or another. It was the American vice president himself who committed himself to supporting the extreme right. He had no influence ," he declared.
In conclusion, he described the result as a broader victory.
" So, in this respect it is a victory for the Hungarian people, it is a victory for the EU, because the EU cannot go on with this system where some of its leaders make geopolitical moves against the EU itself. And let's not forget that it is one of the main beneficiaries of EU funds ," Malaj concluded.
