Tirana Traffic Police has distributed a press release to the media, showing previously unseen figures of fines against citizens who use cars.
Last week alone, 4,744 drivers were fined for violating traffic rules, including using a cell phone while driving, speeding, overtaking, etc.
32 drivers have been arrested or will be investigated at large.
Meanwhile, 53 vehicles were blocked as part of this operation.
Police "achievements" in numbers:
During the past week and this weekend, the Traffic Police services, with the approaching end-of-year holidays and the increase in traffic flow, have intensified checks and patrols on all axes and connecting points of the capital, with the major objectives of preventing accidents and meeting road safety parameters.
As a result of the additional presence and use of modern logistical equipment, dangerous road violations have been identified, for which the following administrative measures have been imposed:
Speeding above the permitted speed limits – 1838 measures;
Using a mobile phone while driving – 1207 measures;
Failure to wear a seat belt – 722 measures;
Failure to wear a protective helmet – 653 measures;
Failure to respect traffic order – 250 measures;
Wrongful overtaking – 74 measures.
Furthermore, for serious violations of the Highway Code and criminal offenses in the field of road traffic:
32 citizens were arrested/criminally prosecuted;
53 vehicles were impounded.
The Traffic Police once again appeals to all drivers and other road users to respect traffic rules, as a joint and extremely important contribution to guaranteeing road safety and protecting life.
