Only 14% of the country's beaches are of excellent quality, while more than a quarter are in poor condition. The biggest polluters are businesses that discharge water into rivers and seas. A report by the national Environment Agency shows that the situation has been deteriorating significantly.
The beaches with the best quality for 2024 are those in Lukovë, Palasë, Drimadhe, Dhërmi, Jalë, Livadh and Borsh, followed by the beaches of Shëngjin, Tale, Gjiri i Lalzit, Seman e Derëzezë, Divjakë, Zvërnec, Orikum. While those with poor quality where immediate measures should be taken are Velipojë, Durrës, Kavajë, Qerret, Spille, Vlorë, Himarë, Qeparo, Saranda, Ksamil and Lin-Pogradec, reports A2 CNN.
Currently, there are only 14.6% of excellent quality beaches in the country (Spille Djathtas station, Lame Borshi Beach station, Palasa Beach, Drimadhes, etc.), down compared to 2023 when this figure was 27.8%.
