The United States of America appears to have strengthened the Anti-Terrorism Unit in the country. As we are in a period of war and Albania was recently added by the US to the list of countries where there may be attacks by Iranian groups, the Americans seem to have been put into action.
The US Embassy reports that the Counter-Terrorism Unit has been equipped with the latest drones, which also have thermal detectors.
" The Anti-Terrorism Unit of the State Police is being equipped with the latest American-made drones. With thermal imaging technology, these drones can increase the ability of the State Police to monitor situations day and night to protect borders and track violent elements ," the embassy said.
A representative of the American forces has provided details, stating that they are used by law enforcement and the military in the US.
“ The Albanian State Police’s counterterrorism unit is being equipped with the latest American UAS technology. Drones, designed and manufactured in the United States, which are used by law enforcement and the military in the US and built to meet American military specifications, are now in the hands of the Albanian State Police. We are also providing training for agents who will use the drones. In this way, we increase the capabilities of Albania’s law enforcement by providing them with the latest UAS equipment ,” he said.
On April 1, the US Embassy issued a warning that Albania could be the target of terrorist attacks by groups linked to Iran. The embassy stated that the targets could be both entities linked to the US and elements of the Iranian opposition present in the country, namely representatives of the MEK organization in Manëz.
" Iranian-affiliated groups may target entities affiliated with the United States or Iranian opposition elements in Albania. They may also target common locations, such as tourist sites, shopping malls, hotels, clubs, and restaurants ," the Embassy said in a statement.
