Private hospital in Tirana blocked for not declaring 1 million euros in profits;

A private hospital in Tirana has been blocked after failing to declare 1 million euros in profits for 1 year, 2024-2025.

After several months of investigations by the Economic Crime Unit in cooperation with the Tirana Police, it was revealed that the hospital, in addition to not declaring its profits during this time, was providing hospital services with prohibited products, while five uninsured employees were also working.

During this operation, the administrator of the private hospital, Edmond Zaja, was arrested and the two shareholders of this entity, Bilal Kara (Turkish) and Geriana Arapi, were declared wanted.

During the checks carried out, the blues seized 100 blocks of untaxed warrants, 27 types of suspected expired medications, and 6 computer units.

"During the "Bilanci" operation, the services of the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Sector arrested the hospital administrator, citizen EZ, 62 years old, and declared the co-shareholders of the entity, Turkish citizen BK, 45 years old, and Albanian citizen GA, 32 years old, wanted.

During the investigation period of several months, in coordination with the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, as well as from the controls on the subject, it was found that through the issuance of untaxed invoices, tax evasion worth over 1,000,000 euros had been committed. Also, the hospital was using suspected smuggled medications, prohibited for use by the competent authorities, and 5 citizens were employed without insurance.

"Work is underway to capture the 2 wanted citizens, as well as to fully investigate these criminal activities. The procedural materials were referred to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office for further action," the police announced.
