Journalist Eni Ferhati has commented on recent developments regarding the Matrix application, used by criminals for illegal activities, which has now been officially taken over by the Special Prosecution Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime.
Ferhati explained that this application has a similar role to the Sky ECC application, which was decommissioned in December last year.
"From the official announcement, now with the dismantling of the Matrix application in December last year, there would be a similar practice as with the Sky ECC application, where the Special Prosecution has obtained the data they are interested in through a letter of request. This is the first time that SPAK admits that in the function of a criminal proceeding, the legal path of a letter of request has been followed to obtain certain data for Albanian individuals who have communicated in the encrypted Matrix application for suspected cases in Albania. Such a practice may be consolidated in the coming months for other cases," the journalist said in an interview with Euronews Albania.
Ferhati stressed that this practice could be consolidated in the coming months to investigate other cases. He also touched on SPAK's recent announcement regarding former socialist MP Jurgis Çyrbja, who was linked to this app and who had denied using it during questioning.
Among other things, Ferhati also explained that Matrix was initially investigated by Dutch authorities and that SPAK has turned to the Netherlands to find out more about this application and its use by Albanians and internationals involved in the criminal world.
"What SPAK shows in today's announcement about the former socialist MP Jurgis Çyrbja, is that the cross-check of the data initially obtained in the Sky ECC application, which Çyrbja denied even during questioning that he had never used such an application, SPAK says otherwise, that the conversations in Sky ECC intersect with the conversations that took place in Matrix.
Çyrbja left office on October 9 of last year, while the execution of the security measure for him was carried out on October 20, i.e. 11 days later. Meanwhile, Matrix explained that Altin Hajri, who is explained as a close social connection of the former MP of the Durrës district, a person with major criminal charges, internationally wanted for serious criminal offenses, it turns out that Altin Hajri, in collaboration with other still unidentified persons, spoke to Matrix regarding the arrest of the former socialist MP in Albania. This happens only two months after the Matrix application was dismantled by the Europol authorities and "Dutch. Matrix was initially investigated by Dutch authorities, so we turned to the Netherlands ," the journalist emphasizes.
