Around 345,000 students will sit at school desks today as the new school year begins.
The Ministry of Education announced that there are 31,000 teachers in total, while this year support for students with disabilities has been strengthened. Specifically, there are 2,260 assistant teachers, an increase of 150 more than in 2024.
Free transportation will be provided to 38,000 students and 12,000 teachers. In addition, 3,500 scholarships are available for students in need of financial support.
Books were distributed free of charge to children returning to school. As in the entire country, books were distributed to children in every school in Elbasan.
Somewhere well-maintained and some less so, parents in droves have rushed to take advantage of this convenience offered, but in the meantime, according to budgets, they share different opinions on the cost of other school materials.
Meanwhile, in Korça, the new school year begins with a significant drop in the number of students. Compared to the previous year, there are 3,726 fewer students, reducing the figure from 21,080 to 17,354 students.
This situation has led to the merger of several schools in the city of Korça, while a significant number of first grade classes have not opened due to lack of enrollment. According to the vice president of the teachers' union in Korça, the reduction of almost a quarter of students is an alarming indicator that requires emergency intervention in the education system.
The decrease in the number of students is also reflected in teachers, who are left without a teaching load. Some of them are expected to become assistant teachers or engage in after-school programs.
