Writer Ben Blushi has made a strong reaction after the terrorist attack that shocked Australia, where at least 16 innocent civilians lost their lives and 60 others were injured, during a festive event in Sydney.

"In the Australian massacre where 15 innocent people were killed, two Islamists behaved like criminals, while one Muslim behaved like a hero. This difference between heartless Islamists and good Muslims is described in my novel Jam Musliman," Blushi writes on Facebook.

Ben Blushi's reaction highlights a broader discourse on the divide between users of violence acting in the name of religion and the majority of believers who strongly condemn terrorism, while the event at Bondi Beach will remain one of the most shocking in Australia's contemporary history.

The terrorist attack on Bondi Beach, the event that shocked the world

On the evening of December 14, 2025, a gunman opened fire on Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia, during a Hanukkah celebration event, where hundreds of people, including families and children, had gathered to celebrate "Chanukah by the Sea."

Authorities declared this incident an anti-Semitic terrorist attack.

At least 15 civilians were killed by two attackers who opened fire on the crowd, Reuters reports.

Among the victims were children, the elderly and members of the Jewish community, including prominent figures such as Rabbi Eli Schlanger and a former police officer. One of the attackers was killed on the spot, while the other was seriously injured and arrested by police.
Authorities found possible symbols of extremist ideology, including flags and paraphernalia suggesting terrorist motives.

The role of a Muslim civilian, heroism amidst horror

From the chaos of weapons and panic, images and testimonies of an extraordinary protagonist emerged, 43-year-old Ahmed al Ahmed, a citizen of Muslim origin who, risking his life, succeeded in disarming one of the attackers, helping to save many lives before being injured and taken to the hospital.

This heroic act was rewarded by politicians and citizens as an example of courage and solidarity in an extreme situation.

Reactions and consequences of the attack

After the event, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the massacre as a "pure anti-Semitic act" and pledged stronger efforts against hatred and radicalization.

Albanese has announced that the government will push forward with even tougher gun laws, including time limits on licenses, despite Australia already having some of the strongest firearms regulations in the world.

After the attack, many citizens gathered on the beach to lay flowers and honor the victims.

The Muslim community in Australia has strongly condemned the attack, stressing that anti-Semitism and violence have no place in society and expressing solidarity with the Jewish community./ Pamphlet
