The High Court has rejected Ilir Meta's request to change his security measure to "prison arrest", leaving the Appeals Court's decision in force.
The decision was made public today, thus sealing the former President of the Republic's stay in prison.
"Rejection of the appeal of the applicant/defendant Ilir Metaj, against decision no. 183 (87-2025-284), dated 08.09.2025 of the Special Court of Appeal for Corruption", the official announcement states.
In July, the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, SPAK, completed the investigations against former president Ilir Meta, also the leader of the Freedom Party, and his ex-wife, Monika Kryemadhi, who are accused of criminal offenses of corruption.
A few months ago, the former head of AKEP, Pirro Xhixho, was also named as a defendant in this case, and he was informed of the conclusion of the investigation on Monday, July 28.
SPAK has also indicted LSI financier Ema Çoku and Monika Kryemadhi's mother Fatime Kryemadhi for money laundering. Çoku was informed of the charges on Monday, while Meta and Kryemadhi are expected to be charged on Tuesday upon completion of the investigations.
Former President Meta is accused by the Special Prosecution Office of three corruption cases; for the file known as CEZ-DIA; for obtaining monetary values in exchange for influence exercised in favor of a telecommunications company; as well as for the suspected corrupt relationship.
