Meteorologists predict that El Niño activation during the months of June-August will be accompanied by high temperatures and increased humidity.

The El Niño climate phenomenon, known for its impact on atmospheric conditions around the globe, is expected to have its effects in Albania as well. Although it develops in the Pacific Ocean, meteorologists say its consequences are felt in different regions of the world, including the Mediterranean.

According to weather experts, the warming of the water surface in the Pacific affects global atmospheric circulation, bringing changes to the climate of our region. For this reason, Albania is expected to face a hotter and longer summer than usual.

Meteorologists predict that the activation of El Niño during the months of June-August will be accompanied by high temperatures and increased humidity. In some cases, actual temperatures may reach 35-38 degrees Celsius, but due to humidity they may feel like 42 to 45 degrees.

Experts warn that expected weather conditions will also increase the risk of fires during the summer season, due to high temperatures and long periods without precipitation.

According to the World Meteorological Organization, there is an 80 percent chance that the El Niño phenomenon will be active during this summer. Its impact is expected to extend across the Mediterranean region, bringing temperatures above the seasonal average.

However, the challenges are not expected to end with the summer. Meteorologists warn that during the fall, high sea temperatures could favor the development of extreme weather phenomena, including intense rainfall in short intervals of time, hail and flooding.

According to specialists, the penetration of colder air masses over a warmer sea creates ideal conditions for strong storms and episodes of high-intensity rainfall.

Although recent studies suggest that the impact of El Niño this year may be more moderate compared to previous cycles, experts emphasize that its effects will be felt in many regions of the world, including Albania.
