New details have been made public regarding the health condition of Korça Police officer Edison Adri, who has been hospitalized for several days at the University Trauma Hospital in Tirana, after being injured during surgery in Maliq.
According to information provided by the Hospital, the officer continues to be kept in intensive care, while doctors report stabilization of vital parameters and continued signs of improvement.
"The health condition of the police officer, who came from Korça and was admitted to the University Trauma Hospital (UTH) a few days ago, continues to be intubated, with stable vital parameters and continuously improving.
"The SUT medical team will continue to monitor the health condition of the police officer and will inform about any further developments," the Trauma Hospital said in a statement.
Police officer Edison Adri was injured during the operation conducted in Lozhan i Maliqi to capture the wanted Violand Braçellari. During the operation, Braçellari opened fire on police forces, killing the "Eagles" officer Enea Mekolli.
Operation in Maliq
At around 07:30 on Thursday, police forces surrounded a hut in the mountainous area of Lozhani, where 43-year-old Violand Braçellari was suspected of hiding. According to the police, he was sentenced in 2017 to 9 years, 11 months and 7 days in prison for the criminal offense of "Production and sale of narcotics", while earlier he was ordered to be placed under the security measure of "Arrest in prison" for the criminal offense of "Cultivation of narcotic plants".
Police say that during the intervention, he was called upon to surrender, but he disobeyed orders and opened fire on the officers.
As a result of the shooting, Inspector Enea Mekolli, part of the "Eagle" Special Force at the Korça Police Department, lost his life in the line of duty. Inspector Edisan Adri, 36, also part of the same police structure, was also wounded.
Police forces returned fire, neutralizing the suspected perpetrator, who was injured and arrested at the scene.
A health service helicopter was also deployed to assist the injured and transport them to a specialized medical center.
