The head of the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH), Joni Keta, stated that cryptocurrencies constitute a global challenge in the fight against crime, while emphasizing that the BKH has significantly increased its capacities for investigating and tracking digital assets.
During his report to the Committee on Legal Initiatives, Keta stated that BKH investigators have followed a two-year training program for investigations related to cryptocurrencies, while the results of this work are also reflected in the institution's report.
"Cryptocurrencies are a concern not only for us, but throughout the world. Today, the BKH has the necessary capacities, as our investigators have been trained for two years to track cryptocurrencies. The concrete results are part of the investigations conducted by the BKH," said Keta.
He added that the BKH's contribution is not limited to the investigations conducted by SPAK, but also extends to cooperation with international partners.
"Today we are not only in the phase where we carry out actions on behalf of SPAK. Our work has also contributed abroad and this is reflected in the platforms of our international partners," said the head of the BKH.
According to Keta, the next challenge is related to the administration of cryptocurrencies within the framework of legal changes, while emphasizing that the BKH has also undertaken an internal reorganization, creating structures dedicated to the investigation of cryptocurrencies and digital assets.
Commenting on a question about a recent operation, Keta emphasized that BKH cooperates closely with the State Police and does not intend to compete with it.
"We cooperate with the State Police and do not seek to compete with it, as it is the largest law enforcement organization in the country. BKH investigators have acted in full compliance with the Criminal Procedure Code, have identified the wanted person and have carried out the arrest. This is the duty of every investigator, " declared Keta.
