Alushi was considered one of the closest people to the former Director General of the State Police, Ilir Proda, who resigned from his post at the beginning of March.
The Director of the Tirana Police, Elton Alushi, has resigned from his post. Sources at the State Police confirm that Alushi has submitted his resignation by mail, while the appointment of a new director is awaited.
Elton Alushi took over the leadership of the Tirana Police in November 2024, after a competition held for the first time according to the provisions of the police law. He remained at the head of the most important police directorate in the country for about a year and a half.
Alushi was considered one of the closest people to the former Director General of the State Police, Ilir Proda, who resigned from his post at the beginning of March.
His appointment as head of the Tirana Police was considered a surprise at the time, as he was chosen among several candidates in the race, although he had not previously held the post of district director. Prior to this appointment, Alushi had held various functions in the structures of the State Police, as deputy district director, sector chief and chief of police station.
His resignation was formalized this Monday, while Oliger Torba has been appointed as the new director of the Tirana Police.
