The situation of juveniles in crime is worrying. The police are increasingly facing juveniles who are involved in ordinary crimes, especially thefts.
However, by taking advantage of the legal facilities for minors, they have become "coveted prey" for criminal groups. They are easily seduced and do not think much about the consequences they may have.
The Cani family's lawyer for Martin's case, Redi Ramaj, says that the reflection from educational institutions was zero and this led to the murder of the 15-year-old in Durrës a few days later.
He stated that the biggest problem regarding these cases is the negligence of society, starting from state institutions to protect children. In fact, the school was the one that could have prevented the incident, since several children were involved.
"Tomorrow is the last session for Martin Canit. What we are discussing, the biggest problem is the negligence of the entire society, starting from state institutions to protect children. It has been more than a year and the reflection after the Martin Canit incident is almost zero. Apart from the family, who is left when we have this big failure? The state institution remains.
The school is in another investigative process, which we do not yet know at what point it is. The Martin Can tragedy was a tragedy, but so was the Durrës tragedy, which could have been avoided. No one found out. Someone should have notified the parent to talk to their child, because there were 12 children involved in that incident.
Most of that child's daily hours are in that school institution. The problems come from the inclusion of children in those communities. They do not come from the family or the neighborhood, but from the schools. The educational institution should have been more careful about the children. The appropriate measures have not been taken and they have not reflected on this situation.
"I hope that in the parallel criminal process, the school will be more deeply involved in this matter. I believe that for the first part of the school part, but also of the civil part that we will pursue with the family, the school will be involved," the lawyer told "TCH".
