Will protests produce a new party over Rama and Berisha?
Migen Qirakhi, representative of the organization Qendresa Civitare

Migen Qiraxhi, representative of the organization Qëndresa Kyjetare, spoke about the purpose of the protest, which yesterday marked 20 days of rallying against the old political caste.

According to him, the question of whether this movement will transform into a political party does not at all represent the highest level of achievement that this civic engagement can produce.

Qiraxhi argued that the potential of this movement is much greater than the creation of a new political entity, emphasizing that Albania already has a large number of parties and that adding another one would not constitute a significant development for the country's democracy.

"Because I have the impression that it's the same question: will they have a political force? I'm doing it differently from what I addressed to other colleagues. What are you going to talk about? Which door will she come out of, that she is asking for her resignation? I mean, where is the point? Just negotiate... Just negotiate, you will come out of the first door. I just want to clarify, I just want to create a little atmosphere of invitation that this energy that is happening here makes for Albanian society, even in the narrative. Not only you as colleagues, but also other members of society address the energy of this protest as if the highest stage of its achievement is: will it make a party? I think that, if this energy makes a party, it is in essence: 'the mountain has given birth to a mouse'. Considering that the potential there is extraordinary and a party is very small if that energy creates a party. I mean, from what I believe it has the potential to do, to make only a party, I don't think that it is any contribution to society to make a party. Maybe it was an extraordinary thing in the '90s. But if you go after the question 'will this energy have a political force?', I think it is already over. The country has 120 parties or 128 parties, it could become 129, which means that, at this historical moment in the development of the country's democracy, becoming or not becoming a party is no longer a political event," he told Euronews Albania.

According to him, what is currently happening cannot be seen as an attempt to create an alternative within the traditional political system, but as the birth of a new form of civic organization and awareness.

"This social movement has not produced an application within the system. So, if we have Android and Apple, which are the DP and the SP, this has not produced something within these, but has produced another system. Today there are political parties, and citizens as well, something that we did not find before and we said: 'Why does society not react?' Society and politics have already learned a very interesting lesson. It has made an extraordinary contribution, because it has turned the politically uninterested individual into a society interested in politics. There are large social groups that have not been interested in politics until now, mainly young people and Generation Z. I invite us to look at it as a process. As much as the country needs to democratize entire processes, which could be democratization... By the way, today Edi Rama no longer has the same political reality that he had two-three weeks ago," emphasized Qiraxhi.

Qiraxhi emphasized that the main value of this movement lies in the activation of citizens, especially young people, who according to him have traditionally been less engaged in political life. He considered this development as a process with a long-term impact on the democratization of Albanian society.
