Environmental catastrophe on the Kuna coast, the beach turns into a garbage

Nature has returned to man all the consequences of massive environmental pollution.

As a result of the heavy rainfall that affected Albania over the past few days, massive pollution has been observed on the seashores of our country where massive waste, mainly glass and plastic, has covered the sandy beaches.

In addition to the coast of Vlora and Velipoja, the situation is also alarming on the Kuna coast near the mouth of the Drin River. The coastline is covered with various waste that the river has brought from the areas around Lezha and Vau i Dejës. The accumulated waste includes glass, plastic and even dead animals, creating a worrying situation for the environment and local tourism.

Environmental expert Jak Gjini speaks of a coast turned into an urban waste landfill, saying that waste from rural areas, as well as urban areas, must be well managed to avoid such disasters.

"Here we are in the northern part of the Drin River estuary. What was expected to happen when there is a lack of rainfall for a certain period, the rainfall comes with force and the Drin current has been almost passive for a good part of the time. These are created by the uncontrolled dumping of waste, washed away by these currents and this scheme that we are seeing here occurs. It is a real landfill of urban waste.

From a single house in rural areas to groups of houses, neighborhoods and villages, special measures must be taken, especially by the mayor's office, for more appropriate administration. These areas must also be included in the cleaning schemes for urban areas. Even in suburban urban areas, it happens that they find places near the water network because they think that they can eliminate them there because the water takes them and throw them there, while there are many ways for more careful administration without damaging the environment", said Jak Gjini.

The tides of the Adriatic have turned the waste back into landfill and onto the coast of Velipoja. Meanwhile, an alarming situation has also been observed on the Dubrovnik coastline as the beach has been 'invaded' by waste coming from Albania./Shqiptarja.com
