A new chapter has appeared in the "Negreira" scandal where Barcelona is involved. The newspaper "El Mundo" reported on Monday that the Civil Guard (police) presented its final report to the judge concluding that Barcelona paid the former head of referees 7.5 million euros for arbitration advice that was not found!
But, above all, the document reveals that the wife of the former head of the arbitrators has put 3 million euros into her accounts during the period that her partner held the post of vice-president of the Technical Arbitration Committee. These accounts are in the process of being studied to determine the origin of these amounts, not justified a priori by income and working capital.
The income is thought to have been realized in the period 1992-2023. Among the recent investigations carried out by the Civil Guard, according to the newspaper, the interrogation of Ernesto Valverde stands out. The former Barcelona coach, now at Bilbao, explained that he was aware that Negreira's son, Javier Enriquez, submitted the reports to the club (unlike his father, who received payments without any documentary support), but that he does not remember that they were offered to him or made available to him.
Influence on judges - Investigators dealing with this case consider Negreira's influence on the arbitration panel to be proven. "He has performed relevant functions within the Technical Committee of Judges (KTA), such as communicating promotions and demotions with judges, reviewing classification points as well as International Coordination".
They add that Negreira went to the headquarters of the Technical Committee of Referees several times a year for various tasks and that he also looted the coffers of the arbitration committee and regional federations, such as that of the Catalonia region, through alleged sales of office supplies or consultancy without any documentary accreditation.
All this thanks to the fact that he was an important person in the world of arbitration and was considered an influential figure not only at the regional level, but also at the national level. At the moment, the final destination of the money Negreira received from Barça remains unknown.
