The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, will attend the World Cup trophy presentation ceremony, following the grand final that will take place on July 19 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The news was confirmed by FIFA president Gianni Infantino during an interview with American television "Fox News", ending speculation about Trump's presence at the tournament's most important event.
According to Infantino, the American president has been in constant contact with FIFA throughout the competition, despite his absence from matches and ceremonies so far.
" We will be together with the president enjoying the final and, of course, we will hand over the trophy to the winner together ," Infantino told the media.
Trump was not present at the tournament's opening ceremony, held before the U.S. national team's first match against Paraguay at Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium. At that event, the U.S. administration was represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
However, the World Cup final is expected to bring the US president into the global spotlight. This will not be the first time Trump has attended such a ceremony. A year ago, during the Club World Cup held at the same MetLife Stadium, he handed over the trophy to Chelsea, attracting attention for his presence on the podium during the winning team's celebrations.
The presence of Trump and Infantino at the closing ceremony is expected to turn the final into one of the most watched moments of the tournament, combining sporting spectacle with political symbolism on a stage with global resonance.
