The Albanian national football team plays against Serbia on Saturday, June 7 at 8:45 PM in Tirana, with the atmosphere in the Serbian camp not calm.
At the press conference, coach Dragan Stojkovic had a clash with journalists over the selection of players, while revealing that after "EURO 2024" he resigned, which was not accepted by the Federation.
Dragan Stojkovic spoke openly to "L'Équipe" about his position after the European Championship in Germany, the pressures he faces as a coach, but also his personal motives and attitude towards work.
Stojkovic revealed that immediately after the end of EURO 2024, he offered his resignation to the Football Federation of Serbia.
" After the European Championship, I proposed to leave the Federation. They told me: no, we will continue ," Stojkovic told the French newspaper "L'Équipe".
Speaking about the pressure he faces in the public eye, especially in the age of social media, the Serbian coach openly admitted how cruel this dynamic is.
" On social media, they will 'cut off your head immediately'. Yesterday I was king, while today I know nothing about football. Anyone can say whatever they want. They talk about your family, about the watch you wear … ", he said.
He also referred to his previous engagement as president of Crvena Zvezda, emphasizing that he then faced completely different challenges, which he did not like.
" I tried to help, to solve problems. But this is not for me, too much politics ," he continued.
Finally, he explained why he took on the role of Serbia coach.
" I became the coach of Serbia because I knew that generation of players very well. I knew I could do something with them ," the coach said.
