Virxhil Maçolli (Xhili), one of the most famous names in Pogradec and Albanian wrestling, has passed away at the age of 72.
The former champion wrestler had been living in the USA for years, but together with another big name in wrestling, Xhelil Cibaku, they dealt with the history of wrestling in Pogradec.
A few days ago, the two of them held a meeting with the mayor of Pogradec, Ilir Xhakolli, to whom they asked for support in bringing back the sport of wrestling to the lakeside city.
Maçolli's speech at this meeting was warmly received by everyone, as the history of wrestling in Pogradec is great, just as the history of a wrestler like Virxhil Maçolli is great.
When everyone was waiting for Maçolli to return to the wrestling mat in Pogradec, the history of this city lost one of its most important figures.
Despite all the help provided by doctors at the QSUT, the cardiac arrest was so severe that doctors found it impossible to keep him alive.
Virxhil Maçolli will be remembered for everything he gave to the sport of wrestling in Pogradec. Now someone else must take on the task of bringing back wrestling and fulfilling the legacy of the former Pogradec wrestling champion.
