There is an open trial in Spain, on charges of smuggling Rolex and Patek Philippe watches. How the system works in Andorra and the numbers at play.
An Andorran judge has named seven footballers, including Daniel Carvajal and David Silva, in a register of suspects accused of smuggling luxury watches. The investigation is related to operations carried out through a company in the Principality of Andorra, suspected of not declaring invoices.
In addition to the Real Madrid defender and former Manchester City midfielder, Santi Cazorla (Oviedo), Giovani Lo Celso (Betis), Thomas Partey (Villareal), Cesar Azpilicueta (Sevilla) and Joan Bernat (Eibar) are also under investigation.
Spanish authorities have been involved in questioning the players in the status of "investigated" for the purchase, delivery and transport of watches, according to a source cited by Iberian media.
The players are suspected of purchasing expensive watch models, particularly Rolex and Patek Philippe, through a network that sought to avoid paying tax.
The main suspect in this case is an entrepreneur, Diego GC, who was charged with smuggling and money laundering in 2025. The mechanism, which the judge described as “classic”, involves the transfer of watches between Spain and Andorra, physically separating the product and the documentation to avoid customs declarations. In some cases, the watches were sent without an invoice.
The figures are very high. Partey has spent more than 400 thousand euros for 3 hours, Bernat around 367 thousand euros and Silva almost 300 thousand euros. Carvajal turns out to have bought a Rolex Daytona for 64,800 euros in 2021. The investigation remains open and aims to clarify the role of the footballers in the suspected smuggling network. At the moment they are considered secondary figures in relation to the organizers of the system.
