The goalless draw between Australia and Paraguay in Group D of the World Cup has sparked intense controversy on social media, with many fans accusing both teams of playing to preserve a result that was beneficial to everyone.

Others cast doubt on a "silent pact" between the two teams, arguing that a draw was the ideal result for both sides and that neither took risks to seek victory.
With this result, Australia secured passage as second in Group D and on July 3 in Arlington, Texas, will face the team that will finish second in Group G in the round of 16.
On the other hand, Paraguay only awaits mathematical confirmation of qualification, as it ranks in a very favorable position among third-place teams.
The draw has also affected the race for the final places leading into the knockout stages. Teams like Scotland have seen their chances dwindle as Paraguay have taken a significant lead in the third-place team rankings.
