It seems that an agreement was close, but in the end there will be no green light: Claudio Ranieri will not be the new coach of the Italian national team.
According to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, the Roma coach has made this decision after a long reflection. There were no obstacles from Roma, on the contrary, owners Friedkin have given Ranieri full permission to hold two positions: national team coach and Roma advisor.
" I thank President Gravina for this opportunity, it is a great honor, but I have reflected and decided to remain at the disposal of Roma, in my new mission ," said Ranieri.
Ranieri has decided to reject the offer from president Gravina in order to respect his commitments and work together with Gasperini and Roma. Although it would be a great honor for any coach to lead Italy, Ranieri has preferred to continue with the current project.
Thus, the search for Luciano Spalletti's successor resumes: the strongest candidate now seems to be Stefano Pioli. The former Milan coach currently manages the Al Nassr club in Saudi Arabia, but his experience there seems to have come to an end.
Before the changes in the Italian team, Pioli was one of the favorites to take over at Fiorentina, but the situation could change again. One option is the return of Roberto Mancini.
