The group stage of the Club World Cup is over and it has become clear that the gap between European teams and those from South America or Asia is not as wide as one might think. However, the representatives of the old continent remain the main contenders to win the title.
The Opta supercomputer has released its predictions, and it comes as a surprise that Real Madrid are not even in the top five teams to win the title. Despite their 3-0 win over Salzburg and their improved form, Xabi Alonso's team are not considered favourites.
According to the machine, they have a 9.7% chance. However, Real Madrid has a 62.7% chance of beating Juventus and reaching the quarterfinals. Therefore, the Italian team is in ninth place.

At the top of the table are PSG and Manchester City with 20.6% and 20.4% respectively. The Parisians have already started the World Cup as clear favourites and remain so. For Pep Guardiola's team, their impressive performance against Juventus, winning 5-2, has once again established them as one of the strongest contenders to win the trophy.
" City are at an extremely high level. It's a team that, over the last 10 years, has had a coach who does wonderful things ," commented Juventus coach Igor Tudor.

The top five is completed by Inter, Bayern Munich and Chelsea, with 12.4%, 11.3% and 10.6% respectively. This is the same ranking as before the start of the competition, but with one difference: Chelsea has passed Real. Outside the teams of the Old Continent, the first is Palmeiras with 0.9%. According to “Opta”, Inter Miami with Leo Messi, Suarez, Jordi Alba and company, has a 0.3% chance.
How does Opta's supercomputer work?
The model estimates the probability of each match outcome (win, draw or loss) using betting market odds and the Opta Power Rankings. The odds and rankings are based on the teams’ historical and recent performance. The match is simulated 10,000 times to generate a final prediction for each team.
