Weightlifting/ Çerçizi shines at the European with 4th place,

Albania made its debut yesterday at the European Weightlifting Championships being held in Chisinau, Moldova. Although it has not yet entered the medal zone, the red and black national team has left its mark, scoring important results, which are signed by Arbëri Çerçizi, who achieved fourth place in the snatch, seventh in the clean and jerk and fifth in the clean and jerk.

Although in his first international competition, Çerçizi excelled in the 73 kg weight category. The 27-year-old weightlifter started the snatch style best, successfully passing the first 140 kg test. Then he failed with 142 kg, while he succeeded in the third attempt with 145 kg, ranking third. In this style, the champion was declared Roberto Gutu of Germany with 155 kg. In the clean and jerk style, Çerçizi failed in the first test with 171 kg, a weight which he successfully passed in the second attempt.

In the third test, he tried to lift 176 kg, but was unable to complete it successfully, thus ending the clean and jerk in seventh place with 171 kg. In the clean and jerk, the gold medal went to the Turkish Yusuf Fehmi Genc, ​​with 194 kg. As for the clean and jerk, with a total of 316 kg, Arbëri Çerçizi finished the European Championships in fifth place, while the gold medal in total went to the Turkish Genc, ​​with 348 kg.

Meanwhile, Briken Calja, former three-time European champion and World gold medalist, failed to qualify for the 73 kg category. A day before the competition, Calja announced that he had physical problems that made it impossible for him to compete.

At the age of 35, Calja already seems to be in the final stages of an extraordinary career, as one of the most successful in the history of Albanian sports. The red and black competitions at the European Championships will continue today, where first Erkand Qerimaj will take the podium in Battery B of the 81 kg weight class, with the competition starting at 10:00. Then, in the same weight class, but in Battery A, Kristi Ramadani will enter, with his competition starting at 18:00. Qerimaj has declared 325 kg, while Ramadani 340 kg.
