Albania was defeated by a minimum score of 1-0 in a friendly match against Ukraine, in a match between two teams coming off losses in the semi-finals of the World Cup play-offs.
The match was almost entirely dominated by the Ukrainian team, while Albania appeared far from its best form. The team led by Silvinjo encountered obvious difficulties in the attacking phase, being almost non-existent in front of the opposing goal.
The problems were also reflected in the defense, where the activation of Planna brought instability to the squad, forcing unusual shifts of Mitaj and Hysaj.
At the start of the second half, coach Silvinjo made changes, bringing on Pilos and Mehmet. Albania switched to a five-back formation, an unusual formation for this team in its era.
However, despite the changes, the Rossoneri conceded a goal on the first shot in the box from Ukraine and then risked it on several other occasions.
The goalpost and lack of accuracy from the Ukrainian forwards prevented a deeper score. In the end, the match ended with a 1-0 victory for the eastern team.
