Vedat Muriqi has made history for Mallorca, becoming the island club's all-time top scorer. The Kosovo international striker scored twice in a 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano, taking his total number of goals for Mallorca to 55 and breaking the previous record set by legend Samuel Eto'o.
Muriqi's historic achievement was accompanied by a special surprise from the Spanish club. A congratulatory video was published on Mallorca's social networks by Samuel Eto'o himself, who praised the Kosovar striker's performance.
" Hello Vedat! From here in Cameroon, I want to congratulate you. Congratulations on what you have achieved. I know it has taken a lot of work, but I ask you to continue like this. To continue having fun and making our Mallorca even greater. Congratulations once again to you and your teammates who helped you achieve this undertaking ," Eto'o said in his message.
Excited by this surprise, Vedat Muriqi thanked the club and the former Cameroonian striker for the appreciation, emphasizing the importance of this moment in his career.
" I didn't expect it! Thank you very much for this video from a true legend, like Samuel Eto'o. I really appreciate his words. I know he has done a great job here and the whole world knows what his career has been like ," said Muriqi.
He added that this moment has a special personal meaning:
" I've been a professional for 15-16 years. If 15 years ago they told me that one day Samuel Eto'o would make a video about me, I would have said it was impossible, that it was a joke. And look, today I'm here, proud of myself and thanking him for the video ."
The striker did not forget to thank his teammates and supporters:
" I always repeat, this is thanks to my teammates, all the employees at the club, all the fans, my family, the island. Because without you, I say it from the bottom of my heart, it would have been impossible for me to achieve this. Thank you very much !"
