In the European, Broja played 108 minutes, in the formation against Italy and from the bench in the second half against Spain, his first European which he enjoyed together with the echo behind him, unlike many teammates, with the holidays he chose to spend in Albanian coast, in Vlora.
In an interview in "Exclusive" with the journalist Endi Tufa, he talks about the gathering period in the European, stopping also on the relationship with the other friends of the Albanian National Team.
A period of rest that came after that atmosphere of the European or even before the European, when you were huddled with your teammates. How did you experience this gathering, since you didn't experience the first part of the qualifiers, but you were lucky enough to be where you needed to be in the European.
It was something completely different because, I'm talking about me, I had never spent so much time in the crowd. We were together for almost a month and we were every day with bags, every day doing something, we lived together in short, we were like a house like a family.
When we do the gatherings in March or September, we see each other for 10 days or 8 days at most and then we all go to our clubs. Here was a different experience for all the players. It was something very beautiful for young chunas like me, a great pleasure, something you can probably only experience once in a lifetime. For that you should be very thankful, I am very pleased to have been part of the European and the national team in such a wonderful thing.
It was an incredible experience, for me and for the family who saw me, but I believe also for the people here in Albania, as it was the second time we have qualified for the European and it is something that does not always happen. It happens once every four years and we should really appreciate it.
As for football, it was a pleasure to be on the pitch, to train with all the players and it really brought us together as a group. Now we are players, as friends and as brothers. Even with the coaches, we understood much better together because we were all there. Everything went very well, although it could have gone better, but it was still a special experience.
A little bit above you said that you had never spent so much time with your teammates, you saw something different, you got to know someone more, that maybe before you had a different opinion and now that you are here you have a different opinion?
When you hang out with the players that much you get to know them a lot better as guys, not just as players. He also talks about things outside of football. We talked a lot with Arbër Hoxha since he also had an injury just like me and we talked a lot about that part as well. He is a very good boy and a very good player. That's how we made connections with the players, but also with those I had never met before.
For the first time I met Medon Berisha, also a very nice guy, or the goalkeeper Simoni. We are very close and I still talk to them on the phone. Before, the time was shorter, you come and train for two or three days, play the match, train again and then go to the club, while here we did almost 3 weeks of training before and then we had the matches.
In the free time we have, we played with each other, ping-pong, billiards, cards, we hung out together, we chatted, we drank coffee. And it was a beautiful thing that we spent a lot of time together.
What are you better at besides football, billiards or table tennis?
I like table tennis a lot and basketball, these two.
However, you can tell us a little about your experience in the matches, we had three very strong, very important matches, you took part in two of them in the minutes you played. How were these matches for you because you play in the Premier League, where football is always a party and football is at a very high level, but I have the impression that the European one was different?
Yes, it was very different because, as you said, it is a much bigger thing than playing in the Premier League, because you play for a national team, you play for a country that is Albania, you are playing for everything. It is something that only the players can feel on the field. The fans see it from the outside but they don't feel it like you feel it on the field. For me it was something special, the fans were amazing, they gave us a lot of support, they united us as a team.
When we went out for the first match against Italy and saw 50 thousand Albanians in the stadium, it was crazy, we had never seen so many red ones in the stadium. Something very very beautiful, a special atmosphere. In that match, there were many emotions, perhaps because it was the first match.
We have had some players who have never played in Europe, like myself. I've played in the Premier League and things like that, but it's a completely different feeling. When I entered the field I felt like doing wow myself...I was surprised, but it was very nice. We lost the first game. But to be honest, we had many chances to win the match, when we saw the Croatia vs Italy match, they were winning 1-0 until the end when Italy scored, while we had more chances and chances to win that match.
We scored the goal very quickly for 23 seconds, a very nice thing because now we have a record in history, the one held by Bajrami. We started that match well, we scored a goal very quickly, but then when the goal was scored, not that we were afraid, but I think we respected Italy more than we should. We didn't get aggressive, we didn't go forward, but we went back and just stayed defensive and they played their football. But for me, we had many chances to win that match and we would start with 3 points.
For me, it's not that Italy was very strong, but we were, not like in the other two games with Croatia and Spain. With Croatia we were great and with Spain we played well, while with Italy we started poorly, after the goal I say.
Then they played as they wanted and scored two goals for us. It's not like they suffocated us in that game, they didn't do something wow...that they shot 20 times on goal and we scored once. But they had a lot of possession and we wanted to catch them on the counter attack, while we didn't have many chances to catch them.
They also made a lot of fouls because they are a very well organized team. The Italians are very defensive and are focused on tactics. But it was a difficult match as they were European champions 4 years ago, they are normally a good team but we had many chances to win it./ TCh
