Cheating is back in Serie A, 120 thousand euros are earned for 1 yellow card!

The shadows of cheating return to Serie A, with the fashion now widespread in many championships where cases are being encountered where footballers are punished with yellow cards for financial gain. And in fact, in the case in question it was precisely a betting company that has denounced unusual flows for such a case.

Italian police have announced that they have closed their investigations and have prepared a criminal file for Udinese's Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoje, who is accused of colluding with other people to influence the events of a match in order to financially benefit from betting.

The match in question dates back to March 11, 2024 against Lazio, where Okoje was shown a yellow card for delaying the game in the 63rd minute of the match, which ended with a 1-1 draw. Four people, including Okoje, are under investigation for fraud against the betting company "Snaitech", reports "Panorama".

The company in question had signaled to the police an unusual influx of bets on the eventuality that the goalkeeper would be punished with a yellow card, which was quoted at a coefficient of 8. Almost all bets were placed on the Udine region, bringing in profits of around 120 thousand euros.

While Okoje will face this criminal case, in parallel there will be a sporting punishment, for which he risks a 4-year suspension and a fine of no less than 50 thousand euros. In the meantime, investigations continue to learn whether this has happened before and whether other Udinese players were aware.
