Football is undoubtedly the most popular and beautiful sport in the world. But we do not always understand how important the voice of the one who manages to convey the emotions of the green field to the millions of viewers who follow the challenges through the screen is. The role of football commentators has taken on a very important development these days. Today, we have one of the most prominent names in commentary, not only in Germany but also beyond, the journalist and commentator of Sky Bundesliga, Hans Kupper.
Mr. Kupper, thank you for agreeing to be in this interview with me!
I am very happy to be here.
-First of all, I want to ask you if this is your first visit to Albania and what do you think of our country?
-Our television has been to Albania in the past and they were very pleased with what they saw in Albania, especially in Tirana. I have always wanted to come to Tirana and now I am here for the first time with my wife. We are enjoying it very much. It is a very modern city, with a very nice atmosphere. I like it very much.
-You have been commentating in the Bundesliga and Champions League for more than 3 decades. But beyond commentary, you were also a footballer in the past. How did the transition from footballer to the commentary microphone happen? Was it the passion for football or is there something else?
-Yes, it is true that I was a footballer, but not a professional. I was a very good young player, but I couldn't manage to play at high levels. In this way, I said I would become a sports journalist, commentator and I am very happy, because it is a sport that I have liked a lot since I was little, I have been a player, a coach, and now I have been commentating for 35 years and I enjoy it just as much as I did at the beginning.
-I believe that during your career you have had many beautiful moments. If you could share with us a moment or something special that you had while commentating a match.
There are two legendary moments. Me and the TV where I work, Sky Sport, created something new in commentary. We were 5 commentators in 5 different stadiums and we interfered with each other. Goal in Dortmund, penalty in Munich. In 2001 it was thought that Schalke would be declared champion, then Bayern tied on points and was in first place. In the last game of the season Schalke wins 5-3 and everyone expected them to be declared champion, but Bayern scores in the last minutes and they won the championship. It was an unforgettable moment. We had never experienced a moment like that before and it was one of our best moments in commentary.
-You are known as a Dortmund fan. What does this team represent to you? And has this information, which is known by everyone, hindered you in your work?
Në fakt është një pyetje që e dëgjoj prej dekadash. Si mund të komentosh ndeshje të Borussia Dortmund, kur ti je fans i tyre? Dhe unë gjithmonë i them se kush duhet të komentojë ndeshje, nëse jo djem si unë që e duan shumë futbollin dhe nëse e ke dashur këtë sport që i vogël, patjetër që ke një ekip të preferuar. Sigurisht që kur unë komentoj jam i paanshëm, më duhet ta bëj këtë sepse ndryshe nuk do të më pranojnë në punë. Një ditë Uli Hoenes, i cili ishte drejtues i Bayern-it të Myhniut tha, unë dua të kem më shume pasion tek komentatorët që komentojnë ndeshjet tona. P.sh Hans Kupper gjithmonë flet me shumë pasion kur komenton Schalke. Pra ai mendonte se unë jam tifoz i Schalke. Dhe unë i thash e keni dëgjuar apo jo, sepse Schalke është rival shumë i madh për Borussja-n. Pra, unë kur jam në koment nuk mbaj asnjë anë, sepse nuk jam tifoz në shkallët ë stadiumit.
-Duke qenë se përmenda Dortmundin, dua të ndalemi pak tek rivaliteti me Bayern Munchen.
Nëse do flasim për rivalitetin mes Dortmund-it dhe Bayern-it, i humbur në këtë duel del Dortmund. Sepse këta të fundit në historinë e tyre si klub kanë patur shumë momente krize, kanë qenë poshtë, edhe pse tifozët nuk e kanë lënë kurrë në baltë. Pra, për mua Borussja do te thotë 18 mijë njerëz që ndiqnin ekipin edhe në kohët më të vështira. Kur u bënë rivalë të Bayern-it në vitet 90, të gjithë në Gjermani nisën të thonin janë rivalë, por nuk mendoj se janë rivalë, sepse Bayern gjithmonë do të ketë më shumë para, më shumë sukses. Do të jetë më mirë që Borussja Dortmund të mos e përkufizojë ekipin pas trofeve dhe parave, por pas njerëzve që e duan këtë klub.
-Në Shqipëri faktikisht ka shumë tifozë gjerman. Dhe dua t’ju pyes se si ju duket ecuria e kombëtares gjermane? A mundet Nagelsman të rikthejë Gjermaninë në majën e futbollit botëror?
Aktualisht kombëtarja gjermane është shumë larg asaj që duhet. E pamë në ndeshjet e Nations League. Kur unë isha i vogël, Gjermania arrinte të shkonte në fazat finale si në Europian ashtu edhe në Botëror. Ndërsa tani kemi shumë probleme dhe do na duhet shumë kohë për të arritur në nivelet e Spanjës apo Francës p.sh. Do jetë një punë shumë e vështirë për Nagelsmann ta rikthejë Gjermaninë në krye dhe pse unë kam dyshimet e mia.
-Pra po thonit që Gjermania ka probleme. Cilat janë disa nga ato ?
-Është e vështirë ta shpjegosh. Ne jemi shpallur kampion bote në 2014 dhe kishim një ekip të mirë, kishim talente. Edhe tani kemi lojtarë si Ëirtz apo Musiala, por nuk po ja dalim sot. Nuk arrij ta kuptoj pse nuk punojmë dot si skuadër, njëlloj si Spanja, Franca, Portugalia.
-Pas pjesëmarrjes në Euro 2016 dhe Euro2024, Shqipëria ëndërron të shkojë në Botëror për herë të parë. Sa e njihni ju kombëtaren shqiptare? Çfarë i nevojitet për të arritur këtë hap të madh?
-I don't know the Albanian national team very well, but I know the group they are in and it will be difficult. A goal scored against Serbia would help them a lot to take second place in the group, because England will be first. It will be difficult, but anything is possible in football. However, I want to tell you a story that I have with you. I was at "Euro2016" in France and I was commentating the Albania-Romania match. A friend of mine's daughter was in a relationship with an Albanian guy and he had told my friend: tell Hans to commentate the match with Romania, because it will be Albania's first victory in the European Championship. That day Albania won with Sadik's goal and the next day I called him and told him that I had completed my mission. (Laughs)
-You are a very good football connoisseur, you have had the opportunity to see many generations of football players. So I want to ask you who is the best player for you?
– I always try to avoid this question, of course for good reasons. If I say it's Pele, then it seems like there are no other good ones. But in fact, we have seen many great players: Pele, Maradona, the Ronaldo-Messi rivalry. We have had fantastic footballers and we will have them again in the future. That's why I don't want to say a specific name. I want everyone to have their place.
-What do you think about the new generation of players? For example: Yamal, Mbappe, Musiala…
We in Germany hope that Musiala and Wirtz will be the idols of the future in our national team. There are many young players Dembel, Doue, Lamine Yamal. So, in the coming years we will have very good generations of players, who will give us spectacle and who make us hope that the future of football is in safe hands.

It was a great pleasure for me too, but I want to let me say one last thing, since I'm here. I've never seen a stadium like this, with such wonderful architecture outside and inside. A stadium that was built for fans who love football, so Albanian football has many reasons to be proud of this stadium.
