The Lausanne CAS has ruled in favor of UEFA, upholding the decision to bar Crystal Palace from the Europa League. The reason is the multi-ownership rule that is becoming increasingly prominent in continental football.
UEFA had determined that both Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyonnais, who were participating in the Europa League, had the same club owners and this was in breach of the regulations governing club ownership in the same competition. Therefore, based on the clubs' rankings in the respective championships, with Lyon in 6th place and Crystal Palace in 12th place, it was decided to exclude the latter from this competition, where in fact the club had earned the right to participate by winning the FA Cup.
Instead of Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest will participate in this tournament, taking a step up by switching places with the relegated club. This is because Crystal Palace will continue to play in Europe, but this time in the Conference League.
