Juventus is not for sale. This was John Elkann's direct response to the idea of Tether, a company very active in the cryptocurrency sector, launching a 1.1 billion euro offer to buy all of the club's capital.
The Bianconeri world is reacting to the news; fans are divided, but some have a strong and inseparable bond with Juventus. Michel Platini returns as Juventus captain for a day.
What does Platini think about this offer and possible negotiations?
"I don't think so. In fact, I'm proud that John Elkann has already rejected the offer. Selling Juventus is impossible."
Impossible. Why?
"Because Juventus is the history of not only Italian and international football. Juventus means Agnelli, a unique, almost exclusive phenomenon that began more than a century ago and is destined to continue."
So?
"So you can't sell emotions, fans or tradition, and John Elkann knows this very well."
But the offer is sensational: 1.1 billion euros with the promise of another investment to relaunch the club.
"I don't know these gentlemen who want to buy Juventus. The world of new finance has not yet been discovered, studied with the greatest care and diligence. I repeat, with the greatest care."
What are your thoughts on new investors in international football?
"Finance has taken over football; power and money come first; the rest doesn't seem to matter."
"Politicians dominate, clever, cunning, stupid servants, even in football institutions. But politics is a completely different thing; honestly, I find it difficult to equate it with football."
Do you think a Juventus without Agnelli can exist?
"I can't predict the future, but I'm sure John won't give in to any proposal put forward by these minority shareholders."
Do you still have a relationship with Juventus?
"I can't forget the five wonderful years for the team and for my career. The relationship I built with the Lawyer and other family members was magnificent."
Like the Ballon d'Or awarded to Gianni Agnelli on his 70th birthday, with a greeting card that read "He'll never be able to have this!".
"The Ballon d'Or is at John's house. This is further proof of the relationship we maintain, of appreciation and respect."
For fans, his return as president would be wonderful...
