Sivaspor fired coach Riıza Çalimbaj after they were relegated to the Turkish First Division. In a recent statement, the 62-year-old did not hold back his criticism of Albanian striker Rei Manaj. Among other things, Çalimbaj said that the striker lacked proper discipline in training and had bad relations with his teammates:
" I am a very disciplined person, I don't compromise easily. In my opinion, Rei Manaj's style of play is very good. He is a really great player. But his training is not right and I would never exclude a player from training. But if he becomes a problem for the team, or if you were in my place and he doesn't show up for training for four days, then what should you do?
You are forced to bench him. Did we want to activate him? He was one of our best players, everyone was waiting for him. The whole of Sivasspor was waiting, the fans were waiting for him. Because he is a very good player. But, he was not producing the results we wanted. That is the first. Then the second, how can a coach throw away someone who is good for him? There is logic in everything.
Manaj and I had a good relationship. I used to talk to him a lot, saying 'don't do this, don't do that'. He would always say 'of course, I won't do that' and walk away. He can play well if he wants to. Maybe score in most of the matches. Or win the matches. He was that kind of person. He had this habit. Okay, he had a little lack of discipline.
We thought a lot about this, we said it from the beginning. I have no problem with any player, I would never do something without talking to him. Leaving the team is the last thing. We tried to talk to him for a long time, we tried to convince him in every possible way. But anyway, he needs to make peace with his teammates, he needs to have a good relationship with his teammates .
