
One of the most well-known figures in Albanian refereeing, Lulzim Konçi, has passed away at the age of 85 in New York. Konçi began his journey with a passion for football as a player for Tirana and Dinamo.
He then rose to the highest ranks of refereeing, representing Albania as a FIFA referee.
In addition to his great contribution to sports, Konçi was also an educator. He remained connected to the world of football even after retiring as a referee, serving as an observer. He had been living in the USA for several years.

Lulzim Konçi joined the refereeing sector in 1965 and began his career as a football referee. Konçi was initially a First Category referee, then became a FIFA referee in the early 1970s, until he retired from refereeing around 1990.
The head of the Albanian Football Association, Armand Duka, expressed his condolences.
"It was with great pain that I received the news of the passing of Lulzim Konçi, one of the most prominent figures in Albanian refereeing. His contribution as a FIFA referee and then as an observer remains an important part of the history of our football. I would like to express my most sincere condolences to the Konçi family, relatives and the Albanian refereeing community. His memory will remain unforgettable ," Duka wrote.
