Fearing hooligans, Serbia moves match against Albania from Belgrade

Serbia has asked UEFA to move its upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier against Albania (October 11, 2025) from Belgrade. The Serbian Football Federation is considering moving the match to the Leskovac stadium.

Everything is related to the violent behavior of Serbian fans and the fear that there may be incidents and racist behavior in the stadium, just like on October 14, 2014, when Albanian footballers were raped by Serbian hooligans.

England currently lead Group K with full points and are almost through to the final stage, while Serbia and Albania are fighting directly for second place, which leads to the play-offs. The clash between the two teams, which will be played next month, is expected to be decisive for the fate of qualification.

The Secretary General of the Serbian Football Federation, Branko Radujko, confirmed that work is underway to relocate the match.

"The match against Albania is our absolute priority, as it will decide who will advance to the next stage. We have experienced players and I believe they will make the nation proud. We are working intensively to have this challenge take place in Leskovac, an environment where the team has always felt supported and has achieved positive results," Radujko told Tanjug news agency.

The Serbian Federation's fear comes after repeated acts of violence by Serbian hooligans, who also became protagonists in the match against England a few days ago, as another severe punishment from FIFA is expected.

The final decision is expected to be made in the coming days, while the challenge between Serbia and Albania remains one of the most important in the group.
