Kosovo judoka, Distria Krasniqi, has won the gold medal at the European Judo Championships being held in Tbilisi, Georgia, where around 400 competitors from 46 countries are participating.
In the final of the 52 kg category, the 30-year-old defeated Frenchwoman Amandine Bouchard, securing her third consecutive gold medal at the European Championships and the fourth of her career. With this success, Kosovo continues the tradition, winning at least one medal at the continental championships for the 14th year in a row.
The road to the final
Krasniqi started the competition with a victory over the Czech Tereza Bodnarova, whom she defeated with a "uazari" after complete dominance during the match.
In the quarterfinals, she faced Polish Aleksandra Kaleta, where she once again controlled the fight with tactical prudence and secured victory with a "wizzard".
The semifinal against the Italian Odeta Giufrida proved stronger and more balanced. The match went into extra time, where Krasniqi triumphed with a “yuko”. This was the 13th meeting between the two judokas, with the Kosovar now on a nine-to-four record, having won the last six matches.
Excellent form and personal records
The judoka from Peja is in incredible form, winning medals in 16 consecutive competitions. In her rich career, she has also won Olympic gold and silver medals.
Presentation of other contestants
Judokas Fatjona Kasapi and Erza Muminovic also competed on the first day of the competition. Kasapi won but was eliminated in the second round in the 52-kilogram category. Meanwhile, Muminovic was stopped in the first round in the 48-kilogram category.
The competitions continue on Friday, where Laura Fazliu, Akil Gjakova and Dardan Cena are expected to compete, with the aim of securing more medals for Kosovo.
