Former Arsenal goalkeeper dies after car hit by train in Austria

Former Austrian goalkeeper Alex Manninger has died tragically at the age of 48 after a serious accident in which his car collided with a train. The incident has shocked the football world, with many reactions.

Manninger rose to prominence during his time at Arsenal, where he made 64 appearances between 1997 and 2002. During this time, he was part of a successful team that won the Premier League and the FA Cup.

He began his career with Red Bull Salzburg and then played for a large number of European clubs, playing for around 14 teams, including Juventus, Udinese and Augsburg.

In 2016, at the age of 39, he signed a short-term contract with Liverpool, but failed to make his debut for the English team.

During his time at Arsenal, Manninger was primarily a backup to legendary goalkeeper David Seaman. However, he took on a more prominent role towards the end of the 1997–98 season, following Seaman's injury.
