Cristiano Ronaldo has come under fire after Portugal's 1-1 draw with the Democratic Republic of Congo in their opening group match of the 2026 World Cup.
According to sports media, the 41-year-old striker had a performance below expectations and failed to influence the result, in a challenge where the attention was great on him. Following critical reactions from fans, Ronaldo's sister, Elma Aveiro, published a message on Instagram defending her brother and claiming that Portugal had been "deprived of victory".
The footballer's other sister, Katia Aveiro, also reacted publicly, calling for more collective responsibility within the team. She stressed that the team's results and performances should not be attributed to just one player.

In terms of sport, Portugal took the lead thanks to a goal from Joao Neves, but the Democratic Republic of Congo equalized through Joan Uisa, securing a point in the match held in Houston.
