Fans have called for the United States to be stripped of the right to host next summer's World Cup after Charlie Kirk was shot dead on Wednesday.
The "MAGA" activist was leading an event at Utah Valley University when he was shot in the neck while speaking on stage.
Such news has worried many fans about the tournament that will take place in America.
“ With the shooting and murder of Charlie Kirk, America should not be allowed by FIFA to co-host the World Cup ,” wrote one fan on X. “ How will the World Cup be held in an unsafe location after the scenes of Charlie Kirk’s murder ?” asked another.
Kirk was one of the most prominent figures in conservative politics in the US and co-founder, with Bill Montgomery, of the organization Turning Point USA, created in 2012 to promote conservative ideas on American universities and campuses. He had 5.2 million followers on X and 7.3 million on TikTok, and was an ardent supporter of President Donald Trump.
The news of his death was also confirmed by President Donald Trump, who, through a post on the social network "TruthSocial", announced that conservative activist Charlie Kirk had passed away.
" The Great, even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Young in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my condolences go out to his beautiful wife Erika and family. Charlie, we love you !" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
