"Thumba" to BBV? Arbana Osmani tells why she left television: Now the

Moderator Arbana Osmani is one of the most beloved figures on the Albanian screen, closely associated with Big Brother Albania.

But, two years ago, the moderator suddenly left not only the show, but also the television station where she worked.

After a year-long hiatus from the screen, Arbana returned with a personal project on YouTube, "Good Morning Stars", which was warmly received by her followers. The program will continue this year, and is expected to start broadcasting soon.

In an open questionnaire with her Instagram followers, Arbana shared some details about the new season, but also some messages that were read as jabs at Big Brother, especially about the way reality shows work today.

A follower asked: "Will we see you on a reality show on TV?" Arbana replied:

"Every year, invitations come to host a reality show with the idea of bringing something 'catchy' like Big Brother used to. The problem is that now it is no longer the 'famous production' that decides, but the algorithms. And the latter have brought chaos, causing little or no 'reality' to remain. This is a phenomenon that has affected all reality shows in the world, not just in Albania. I am curious to see how 'Grande Fratello' will fare this year, which returns to the original formula. I have the impression that reality shows are in a transformation phase and will increasingly function like video games. In fact, my son Joni said to me one day: 'Mom, why don't you make a game like Roblox, but with Big Brother?'"

This statement by Arbana has been seen by many as a coded message, which has often been accused by the public of distorting situations and scripting events in his "reality" shows, to increase clicks and viewership.

To another question: "Why did you decide to continue with YouTube and not TV?" - the moderator responded with humor:

"Because even though I'm on YouTube, people still choose to watch me on TV :)"

She accompanied her response with viewership statistics, where over 50% of the audience watched her program on television, even though it was produced for YouTube.

"How is it possible that the algorithm never fails you? You're always on top" – Arbana turned it into a reflection on the digital world:

“15 years on Instagram, 1 year on YouTube and I have never posted for algorithms. Everything has been just personal feelings, often unfiltered, at times that are not suitable for capturing maximum 'reach'. I have not had (and do not have) the curiosity to see insights of posts, except when the clients I collaborate with ask me. I am terrified by the idea that algorithms are increasingly influencing our perceptions and decisions. I want to believe that humans are beings – if not smarter, certainly more sensitive than them ???? I go by instinct: if I like something, I share it with the public; if not, I keep it to myself, even if it would provide me with millions of shares.”

With these stances, Arbana hints that she chooses authenticity over the game of algorithms, a stance that the public has read as a clear distancing from the way reality shows function on Albanian television today.
