Our planet is a near-perfect timekeeper. On average, the Earth completes one rotation on its axis in 86,400 seconds, and a millisecond is of course imperceptible, but can only be recorded by atomic clocks.
By 2020, Earth's rotation had gradually slowed and the shortest day was recorded at 1.05 milliseconds less, while the trend then reversed, with faster rotation, especially in the summer months.
According to astrophysicists, it is difficult to determine the reason for these variations in our planet's movement around itself, as it could be the result of a number of factors, including the complex dynamics of the core, oceans, and atmosphere.
