US President Donald Trump has announced that famous rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs has asked for a presidential pardon. The statement was made during a press conference in the Oval Office, while Trump was responding to the possibility of a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell.
"A lot of people have apologized to me. I call him Puff Daddy, he's apologized to me," Trump said. He did not provide further details, but added that he was not sure if he would consider the request.
Combs was sentenced last week to four years and two months in federal prison on charges of transporting prostitution. During an interview with Newsmax in August, Trump said: “He was kind of semi-innocent. We were friends. But when I ran for president, he was very hostile.”
When a reporter asked if that would influence the decision to pardon, Trump replied: "When someone is hostile, it's harder to forgive. But to be honest, it's more likely to be 'no' for Combs."
Combs' attorney, Marc Agnifilo, told Variety that he was unaware of any communication with the Trump administration. "I'm not involved in anything like that. Sometimes I think it's just hearsay," he said.
Meanwhile, Combs' lawyers have requested that he serve his sentence at Fort Dix prison in New Jersey, to be closer to his family and to undergo drug abuse treatment.
