A court in Seoul has sentenced a Brazilian woman to one year in prison, with execution suspended for two years, after she was found guilty of persistently stalking and harassing BTS star Jungkook.
According to authorities, the woman began following the artist in December last year, repeatedly showing up near his apartment in Seoul, despite police warnings not to approach the property.
One of the most unusual incidents occurred when she rang the doorbell 133 times and left letters and photographs at the entrance to the house. During the investigation, the woman stated that her actions were motivated by the "love" she felt for the 28-year-old singer.
Investigations also revealed that she had thrown objects inside the property and attempted to insert letters through door gaps. In another instance, she allegedly followed a food delivery man to enter the residential area where the artist resides.
Although she was released after her arrest on the condition that she not go near the apartment again, the woman did not comply with the order. According to court documents, she returned several more times, bringing the number of visits to Jungkook's house to about 22 times.
The court imposed a suspended prison sentence, assessing that the risk of reoffending was not high. Meanwhile, South Korean authorities are considering the possibility of expelling her from the country, and deporting her to Brazil, her country of origin; unless she manages to overturn the decision through appeal.
