Diddy is facing serious concerns about his safety in prison, as former prison officials warn that some inmates may attack him for his celebrity status. The rapper and music mogul is currently being held at MDC Brooklyn, a federal detention center in New York City, where TMZ's sources confirm he is in the Special Housing Unit (SHU), isolated from the general population due to the nature of his high profile of his case.
Former MDC Brooklyn guard Cameron Lindsay told TMZ that Diddy's placement in the SHU is a precaution to protect him from potential threats inside the facility.
According to Lindsay, inmates may see harming someone as famous as Diddy as a way to gain prestige behind bars — a "badge of honor." The combination of his fame and the serious charges he faces make him a potential target.
Life at SHU will be a rough change for Diddy, who is used to a lavish lifestyle. His days will follow a strict schedule, starting with a 6am wake-up call. He will be required to make the bed, clean the cell and sweep the floor every day. Recreation time is limited to just one hour a day and he will only be allowed three showers a week.
Diddy's meals, totaling 1,800 calories a day, will be prepared ahead of time and left in a warming box before being delivered to him - meaning the food won't be fresh.
According to Kousouros, who is the rapper's attorney, MDC Brooklyn is notorious for frequent violence, including fights and assaults, which makes SHU a safer, albeit much more isolated, environment for someone in Diddy's position.
