Gisele Pelicot is not the only one, other women learn about the tragedy after

The story sounds like a Netflix crime drama, but unfortunately it's completely true. 71-year-old French Gisèle Pelicot revealed that for almost ten years, from 2011 to 2020, her husband, Dominique Pelicot, had given her sleeping pills and antidepressants to drug her. Then, through a network he had created on the Internet, he brought unknown men home to rape Gisèle while he recorded everything that happened.

The next day began as if nothing had happened. He reverted to the role of loving father and grandfather while she woke up and went to buy bread at the bakery and chat with her neighbors. They were considered the perfect couple. Dominique Pelicot might have continued undisturbed with his double life if he hadn't been spotted by a supermarket security guard surreptitiously taking pictures of women's behinds. As it was revealed, in 1999 he had faced charges of assault and attempted rape of a 19-year-old girl.

When the police took his cell phone, they found the disgusting material. He showed it to Gisèle, but it took her a while to recognize herself. Of the men who raped her, she only recognized the baker.

"They sacrificed me on the altar of immorality. They treated me like a lifeless doll, like a garbage bag," she said.

There are probably more women like Gisèle than we can imagine, according to an article in 'Marie Claire' Australia.

Among the substances given to women without their knowledge is GHB, with the active ingredient butanediol, which Australian data has linked to sexual assault. These are often committed not only by strangers, but also by men belonging to the victim's close family environment.

Some women who go to the clinic “know something has happened to them, but they don't know exactly what. They may have noticed bruises on the hands or damage to the genitals. Sometimes they feel lethargic or think they are suffering from some chronic disease."

Many realize that they have been a victim of sexual assault only after visiting the gynecologist where, for example, they may discover that they are suffering from a sexually transmitted disease, or when they discover that they are pregnant. Others they discover by chance from crime scenes, as happened with Gisèle.
