Dr. Salvador Plasencia has pleaded guilty to illegally distributing ketamine to actor Matthew Perry, known for his role in the series “Friends.” He is the fourth person to face justice in the investigation into Perry’s tragic death in October 2023.
Although the doctor was not responsible for the lethal dose that took the actor's life, his confession has shed light on how he abused his profession and failed to protect his patient, who was known for his long battle with addiction.
Plasencia pleaded guilty to four charges in a Los Angeles court and will voluntarily surrender his medical license. He admitted to handing over 20 bottles of ketamine, syringes and inhalation tablets to Perry and his assistant over a two-week period.
The deliveries of the materials had no medical purpose and often took place in unusual locations, including a parking lot next to an aquarium. In one of his communications with another doctor involved, Mark Chavez, he called Perry an “idiot” and mentioned high fees of up to $12,000 for a home visit.
During a session on October 12, 2023, the actor's blood pressure rose significantly, but despite the clear health risk, Plasencia left additional doses of ketamine in the hands of his assistant.
Investigations have uncovered an entire network of people involved in supplying Perry with ketamine.
