A federal judge in the US has been embroiled in an unusual scandal after a disciplinary report revealed that she had sexual relations in her office during working hours with a senior police officer.

According to Bloomberg Law, it is Eleanor Ross, 58, a judge of the Federal Court for the Northern District of Georgia, based in Atlanta.

The judicial ethics committee's report did not initially mention her name, but US media confirmed the identity of the judge, who was appointed by former President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate in 2014.

According to the disciplinary document, Ross engaged in intimate relationships "in her office and during work hours," showing "serious lapses in judgment" during a two-year relationship between 2023 and 2025 with a police commander.

Court employees had made constant complaints, reporting hearing "unusual erotic noises" coming from the judge's office.

The report states that the situation created an “extremely unpleasant and distressing working environment” for the court’s secretaries and administrative staff.

The commission also raised concerns about a conflict of interest, due to her relationship with a police chief, whose identity has not been made public.

Prior to her appointment as a federal judge, Eleanor Ross had served as a federal prosecutor and as a judge in the Georgia state system.

She was also the judge who presided over the 2022 trial of reality TV star Todd Chrisley, who was found guilty of bank fraud, tax evasion and financial fraud. Ross sentenced him to 12 years in federal prison, but Chrisley was later pardoned by Donald Trump.

After the scandal was published, Chrisley reacted on social media by harshly attacking the judge.

"This corrupt judge, who couldn't focus on our case because she was too busy in the office with the Democrats, must be fired," he wrote on Instagram.

The disciplinary report ended with a formal reprimand against the judge, while the case has sparked widespread debate in the US about the ethics and conduct of justice system officials.
