Kurti calls on MPs: The choice of the President is in your hands, avoid the
Kosovo Government Meeting

From the Government meeting, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, called on political actors to agree on the election of the President and to avoid early parliamentary elections.

Kurti stressed that early elections are not an option and that the responsibility falls on MPs to find a solution through political compromise.

According to him, the election of the president remains a constitutional duty of the Assembly.

Kurti stated that the situation requires political will and compromise from all parties. He underlined that no political entity can secure 80 or more MPs on its own, calling for discussions to be held on the basis of the election results and in the interest of the country.

According to him, Kosovo needs institutional stability and predictability, recalling that citizens have voted for a four-year mandate and that the 2026–2030 governing program will soon be approved.

Kurti added that a new election cycle would not bring major changes to the outcome, but would delay processes, create additional costs, and risk the loss of opportunities and funds.

He also announced that the European Commission has begun transferring pre-financing funds to Kosovo within the framework of the Growth Plan, following approval by the Government and ratification by the Parliament.

According to him, of the 61.8 million euros foreseen, 28.74 million euros have already been transferred to the state budget in the form of loans, while the remaining 33.04 million euros will be implemented through the Western Balkans Investment Framework. He emphasized that 17.73 million euros are grants and 15.31 million euros are loans, adding that these funds will be used for infrastructure projects.
